Lesson 6 of 8 · Lexical resource
Paraphrase with precise vocabulary
Choose accurate familiar words, avoid memorised idioms and recover when a word is missing.
1
Prefer precise common language
A familiar word used accurately is stronger than a rare word used in the wrong context. Precision means naming the exact action or effect.
2
Paraphrase the missing word
If a word disappears, explain its function, appearance or purpose. This keeps communication moving and shows flexible language use.
3
Use collocations, not decoration
Words often occur in natural combinations such as 'heavy traffic'. Memorised idioms can sound forced when they do not fit the question or register.
