English Test Coach vs Writing9
Choose according to the work you need to do next: receive an automated report, understand an example or practise a response yourself.
Ownership disclosure: English Test Coach is our own product. This comparison is written by English Test Coach, not an independent reviewer. Writing9 is a separate provider; its name is used to identify the service being compared.
At this check, Writing9 advertised a paid writing-report service. English Test Coach offered free preparation tools, while public AI assessment and paid checkout were paused. If you need an AI report immediately, our current workspace does not fulfil that need.
Current features and access
The Writing9 column distinguishes advertised capabilities from the public pages we could inspect. English Test Coach availability is described as checked on the date above; see our current help for account and storage details.

Pricing and the meaning of “free”
English Test Coach
Early-access writing tools and public learning resources are free. Paid subscriptions are not currently available. Signing in does not unlock AI feedback while it is paused; there is no usable AI-check allowance to compare with a paid checking subscription.

The public pricing selector displayed $7.99 weekly, $14.99 monthly and a promotional $29.99 yearly price, reduced from $37.49. Plans advertised unlimited checks. These are the amounts shown on 28 September 2026, not a permanent-price promise.
Confirm currency, the final amount and subscription terms with the provider before paying. See Writing9’s current pricing.
Free access to an editor or a demonstration does not mean free reports on your own essays. Writing9’s editor notice distinguishes free drafting from Premium reports. Our free workspace currently offers self-directed practice and a rule-based demo, not AI marking.
Considering a general writing assistant? See Grammarly for IELTS for language feedback, rubric-based grading and the difference between a Performance score and an IELTS band.
Considering more than these two tools? Our Writing9 alternatives guide compares a Task 2 report service, a broader IELTS platform and guided drafting by the job you need done.
Choose for your next learning task
You want a report on your writing now
Inspect Writing9’s demonstration and current plan terms to decide whether its offered feedback suits you. We did not purchase a plan, submit an essay or measure score agreement with examiners. An estimated band is not an official IELTS result, and this comparison does not establish that either product is more accurate.
You need to understand why an answer works
Start with one of our annotated examples. For an agree/disagree task, the opinion essay guide compares three possible positions, develops a financial-education argument and connects seven original questions to worked answers. Each annotation explains a writing choice rather than presenting the answer as a guaranteed band.
You want to practise without paying or creating an account
Choose an original question in the practice library, make a short plan and write in the workspace. Use the timer and word count, then compare your reasoning with the sample. Download a draft if you need a portable copy; a device backup alone does not give you cross-device history.
You are preparing for a specific task
Use our Academic Task 1 visual-report guide, General Training letter guide or Task 2 instruction examples to check the work the question requires. Review Writing9’s task support above if you are considering its report service for that format.
Try one complete practice journey
Plan your position on compulsory financial education, write your own response and compare the original annotated answer. You can evaluate the preparation workflow before deciding whether you also need a separate paid report service.
