English Test Coach vs ieltswritingchecker.org
Short answer: ieltswritingchecker.org is a quick AI checker that leads with an accuracy table. English Test Coach is our pick: its free check shows the bands, it publishes how the estimate was checked, its passes never renew and a teacher can mark one essay. We have not run both tools on the same essays, so we do not claim either is more accurate.
ieltswritingchecker.org is a separate site; its name is used only to identify it.
Our verdict: English Test Coach is our pick for IELTS writing practice
For IELTS writing practice, our pick is English Test Coach: the free check shows you the bands instead of locking them, our method is published, exam passes never renew and a teacher can mark one essay. ieltswritingchecker.org is a reasonable choice if you want very fast reviews and a low introductory price.
- A published method. We publish how our estimate compares with official sample scripts, how it was scored and where it is weakest, on our accuracy page.
- Evidence for each criterion. Each of the four criteria gets an estimated band with evidence from your own essay, then a short list of what to revise next.
- Teacher marking with a refund promise. An experienced IELTS teacher can mark one saved essay for £25: feedback within 48 hours of paying, or your money back.
- Passes that never renew. £12 (1 month), £24 (3 months), £49 (12 months), so nothing charges you again after your test.
- A first check without sign-up, then 3 free checks a month on a free account.

Exam passes
Practise until test day.
Pay once for everything in Pro, for as long as you need before your test. A pass never renews and nothing more is charged. Buying another pass adds its days after the current one ends.
A pass starts straight away, so the usual 14-day cancellation right does not apply. It never renews.
7-day refund on your first purchase if you haven't used it. How it works
Prices are in pounds; outside the UK, checkout may show your local currency, and choosing pounds there avoids Stripe's conversion fee (your bank may still charge its own).
Retaking Writing?
If Writing held your band back, practise with a pass until your retake: check every essay against the four criteria, fix one weakness at a time and see each estimate change. The bands are estimates, not official IELTS scores, and no score is guaranteed.
£12 once, for a test within a month. It never renews.
£12 a month, renewing monthly until you cancel. No VAT is added. Cancel any time; Pro stays active until the end of the paid month, with no partial refunds.
Pro payments are taken on Stripe's secure checkout page, so English Test Coach never sees your card number.

Does it renew automatically?

How accurate is each tool?
ieltswritingchecker.org shows a table based on 73 essays it calls officially scored, with a mean error of 0.49.
