For official sample tasks and answers with examiner comments, start with IELTS.org, the British Council and IDP. For free lessons and model answers, use IELTS Liz (ieltsliz.com), IELTS Mentor (ielts-mentor.com) and IELTS Advantage (ieltsadvantage.com). Feedback on your own writing is the scarce part: free feedback is automated and limited, from tools such as IELTS Mock Lab, IELTSMocks, Write & Improve and English Test Coach, while human marking is paid.
Disclosure: English Test Coach is our own product and is included below. This page is written by English Test Coach, not an independent reviewer. We do not rank sites or award stars; every fact about another site links to the page we read.
What each site gives you free, its sample answers, the feedback it gives on your own writing, and which tasks it covers.

Exam passes
Pay once for everything in Pro, for as long as you need before your test. A pass never renews and nothing more is charged. Buying another pass adds its days after the current one ends.
Which should I choose? Pro suits regular practice and renews monthly until you cancel. A pass suits a fixed test date: you pay once and it never renews.
A pass starts straight away, so the usual 14-day cancellation right does not apply. It never renews.
Prices in pounds. In some countries checkout shows a fixed local price; elsewhere Stripe converts to your currency, and you can choose to pay in pounds. Show prices in rupees (₹)
If Writing held your band back, practise with a pass until your retake: check every essay against the four criteria, fix one weakness at a time and see each estimate change. The bands are estimates, not official IELTS scores, and no score is guaranteed.
£12 a month, renewing monthly until you cancel. No VAT is added. Cancel any time; Pro stays active until the end of the paid month, with no partial refunds. Outside the UK? You can pay in pounds (GBP) to avoid Stripe's conversion fee.
Pro payments are taken on Stripe's secure checkout page, so English Test Coach never sees your card number.
Free feedback is almost always automated and limited. IELTS Mock Lab advertises two AI checks a day with a free account, IELTSMocks marks your first full mock test, Write & Improve +Test Zone gives 10 free Academic tasks, and IELTS-Bank gives one free Writing score. English Test Coach gives 3 free checks a month with a free account; the first needs no sign-up. The official sites give sample answers with examiner comments, not feedback on your own writing.
Not on the sites we checked. Human marking is paid: IELTS Advantage sells per-essay correction by teachers it describes as former examiners, and IDP sells IELTS Progress Check tests marked by IELTS experts. Free feedback comes from AI tools or from comparing your answer with official sample responses.
Only the sample responses published by IELTS, the British Council and IDP carry official band scores and examiner comments. Other sites write their own model answers and label the band themselves. They are still useful for language and structure, but treat the band as the site's own judgement.
No AI tool gives an official IELTS score. Look for a tool that says how it was tested. We tested ours on 27 IELTS responses published with an official band: 24 estimates were within one band, with an average difference of 0.57 of a band, and very strong writing tended to be scored low.
No. Task 2 is the same type of essay in both modules. For Task 1, check that a site has the right task: charts, maps and processes for Academic, or letters for General Training. Some sites, such as IELTS Mock Lab, have Academic Task 1 samples only.
Write your own answer first under time, then compare it with a sample: how the overview is written, how paragraphs are organised and which words connect ideas. Do not memorise sample answers: the band descriptors treat memorised language as a weakness, and a memorised answer rarely fits the exact question.
Pick an original question, write under time and run a free check. Then compare your answer with the annotated sample.
