A practice routine that uses the generator
- Get a question and underline what it asks you to do. Check your reading against the essay planner.
- Plan for two minutes: your position, two or three main points, one example each.
- Write inside 40 minutes with the timer, and aim for 250 words or more.
- Review: did you answer every part of the question? Then try the same topic in another question type.
Questions about the generator
Are these real IELTS questions?
No. Every question is built from topic lines and sentence patterns that we wrote ourselves. We do not copy real Cambridge, British Council or IDP questions. They are practice prompts in the same style as the question types, not predictions of what will appear in the test.
Why do some questions repeat a topic?
The generator combines 12 topics with 5 question types, which gives 60 questions. The same topic in a different question type needs a different essay structure, so it is useful practice.
What should I do with a question?
Spend two minutes working out the question type and planning, then write for 40 minutes. The essay planner shows a paragraph structure for each type, and the timer keeps you inside the time limit.
