Lesson 2 of 8 · Fluency

Use pauses without losing fluency

Replace panic fillers with short thinking pauses and simple recovery phrases.

1

Pause at meaning boundaries

A brief pause between ideas can make speech easier to follow. Pausing after every word breaks rhythm, while never pausing can make important points hard to hear.

2

Use a recovery phrase once

If you need time, a natural phrase such as 'Let me think for a moment' can help. Repeating fillers in every sentence becomes distracting.

3

Restart the idea, not the whole answer

When a sentence goes wrong, correct the short phrase and continue. Starting the entire answer again wastes time and often increases pressure.

Next-attempt checklist

  • Pause between ideas.
  • Use fillers sparingly.
  • Repair only the phrase that needs changing.
