IELTS Liz alternatives for getting your own essays marked
IELTS Liz is one of the most used free IELTS sites, with clear lessons, model answers and topic lists. What it does not do is mark your writing: we found no essay-marking service on ieltsliz.com or the IELTS Liz store. If you have learnt the method and now need to know how your own essays score, these are the options, from free to a full course.
Disclosure: we make English Test Coach, one of the options below. IELTS Liz and the other providers are separate; their names are used only to identify them. Bands from any checker are estimates, not official IELTS results.
Prices at a glance
As each site showed them on 21 October 2026, in its own currency. Short-lived discounts are left out; confirm the final price with the provider before paying.

The alternatives, and what each is best for
1. English Test Coach: best for marking every practice essay
Paste any Task 1 or Task 2 answer, Academic or General Training, and get an estimated band for each criterion, the parts of your answer behind each judgement and the revisions most likely to lift your weakest one. It also has what Liz readers like: original questions, annotated sample answers and an eight-lesson writing course, so you can read a model, write your own and check it in one place. We publish our accuracy: 24 of 27 officially marked responses were estimated within one band (how we tested).
2. IELTSbiz: if you also want reading and listening in the same plan
An AI checker whose paid plans add unlimited reading and listening practice and a monthly live speaking mock with a person. Its pricing page says that after the 3-day trial essays and speaking go unmarked, so plan to pay if you need ongoing checks. IELTSbiz pricing.
3. Engnovate: for a free taste across several skills
Two free writing and two free speaking evaluations a month. Its Task 2 checker says checked essays may become public unless you have Premium, so read Engnovate checker notice before pasting personal details.
4. Write & Improve +Test Zone: for low-cost practice tasks
Cambridge's IELTS workbooks cost £4.50 a month each (60 Academic or 40 General Training tasks) and give a band for each task. You practise its tasks rather than your own prompts. Write & Improve +Test Zone.
5. IELTS Advantage: if you want a person to look at a few essays
Its essay correction service costs $29.95 for one essay, $74.95 for three or $99.95 for five, typically returned within 48 hours, from teachers it describes as former examiners (IELTS Advantage essay correction). Its VIP Academy course adds five one-on-one writing feedback sessions and two personal lessons; that price was shown as a "today only" offer, so check it on IELTS Advantage VIP Academy. Either way, each marked essay costs far more than a checker.
